Books up on Amazon

Emerald Eyes, Long Run, and AI War: Big Boost, are available on Amazon. For some reason Last Dancer hasn't made it through yet. Got my first sale and my first five-star review (probably from the same guy.)

"This is the best science fiction story I have ever read. I'm not going to describe how wonderful this book is because I do not have the time to do it properly."

That's a review. :-)

There are sellers on Amazon who have priced new copies of the original paperback edition of The Long Run from $87 through $237! It will be interesting to see if those prices were based on the collectible nature of that edition or on providing the opportunity to read the book. The Long Run has been like The Perfect Thief for many years now. Widely regarded, but difficult to get a hold of.

Yep. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Writers usually have a mixed reaction to classic expensive old copies of their works. It's a validation at one level, but it's not like *you're* seeing any of that money. Given a choice, you'd rather have sales of cheaper books, and more of them ...

ok, you tricked me. I thought these were hardcopies.

Sorry, no trick intended. But cafepress should be ready in a few days.

Oh, darn. And here I am with several paperback copies of tLR.

(Seriously, it never occurred to me to sell them... if I did, I wouldn't have any replacements if they broke! Or to lend out!)

Hey, speaking of which, how do you feel about lending out ecopies? (This having to trust someone's honour to either delete it when done, or buy it, of course.)

iPad Kindle now Moranified. :)
Looking forward to rereading these and reading A.I. War.

Dan, will Amazon carry the omnibus eventually?

Thanks.

Dan, Last Dancer is up on Amazon now.

So who's the sob who owns the rights to The Ring, and could you have a word with him?

Hey, you do know that your Amazon shortened link redirects through Facebook right?

Daniel Keys Moran said...

OK, I fixed the link so it doesn't go through Facebook. Thanks for the headsup.

Sean, I'm fine with lending. I appreciate the question. I'm as thoroughly anti-DRM as anybody out there -- people who buy things should have the rights to use them as they please, and certainly this would include lending books out. Obviously you have to trust people to do the right thing and delete the book when done, but ... shrug. It's a different world. The only way to stamp out piracy would be to destroy everyone's freedom to do *anything.* I'm not up for it.

Bill Stewart owns the Ring. He's a perfectly good guy -- we talked a couple years ago about doing something with the Ring, and I ended up leaving the country immediately thereafter and Things Happened. But I will probably come back to it.

The omnibus will be available on Amazon at some point, but it'll require work -- I can't do it the way I've done the fs& copy. Amazon won't let me upload multiple files for one book -- so I have to merge the book docs together, reformat them, rekindlify them ... lot of work. I'll get there, but not real soon.

Dan, I do remember when "Things Happened". Sad, but what can you do? If Bill Stewart is a perfectly good guy, then perhaps he'd be a perfectly good sport and allow you to publish The Ring. I look forward to that, as my hard copy has taken a severe beating over the years. Thanks.

Just saw that hardcopy will be available from CafePress. Do they do hardcovers?

I know Lulu.com does, although I don't know the quality since I have only ordered softcovers (The Earhdawn novels) so far. Said Lulu softcovers are very nice tradepaper sized books.

"cafepress should be ready in a few days" Excellent!

Before seeing that, I was strongly considering buying a Kindle just for AI War.

Ah ha! Amazon makes a kindle app for Android. I tore through Big Boost in about a day.

Thank you, Dan. I've missed Trent. :)

"Who are you?" is a question asked 11 times in The Last Dancer and, pouring through Amazon's ebook editions of The Long Run, Emerald Eyes, and now 3/4's of the way through The Last Dancer, it's a question I've asked myself about its author at least as many times over the past few days.

I can think of only two other extended works of SF that I've read since I was 12 that even come close in terms of world building and storytelling.* This series is just that good. I look forward to more.

*The first of which was E.R. Burroughs's Martian series. (Some things stay with you for life.)

Thanks for the compliment. :-)

A great read! I tore through it in a little over 24 hours though :-(

I'm hoping that means the next book will be out soon!
