Haven't slept well in a week ...

Four more wins.

Go Lakers.

Yeah, me either.

One down. Three to go. I hope every single game is as good to watch at this one; I'd have called it a good game even if we lost. But I'm glad we didn't.

Keep bringing it.

I hope future games are better to watch than this one. I grant you, good game, and the team that won deserved to. But I don't want to see it again.

1 for the good guys.

Kind of like watching a train wreck. No chance for a baby skyhook to pull this one out ...

Would this be the wrong time for me to start rooting for the Celtics?

...Just wondering. Don't have a coronary.

Thinking back to how you wondered if your kids would hate the Celtics as much as you do ....

How much of that hatred is just because the Lakers played the Celtics in the finals ... and how much is because the Celtics kept beating the Lakers in the finals for so much of your youth?

I ask because, if it's the latter, and if you want your kids to hate the Celtics the same way you do, I'd be happy to root for the Celtics to help inspire that hatred.

*grin*

Bobbe,

Yes. Bad time.

Had hope briefly there at the end. You're never out of a game with Kobe Bryant on the floor.

Hard to play uphill like that. The refereeing was terrible -- but champion teams handle that. The Lakers didn't.

Bad day at black rock. But home court matters ...

Steve Perry said...

So, do the Lakers own stock in a brick factory? "Cause they were throwing a lot of them tonight, and looked like they might have had a couple under their shorts and maybe in their shoes ...

Jeez. Wasn't for Bryant, they'd had no game.

Daniel Keys Moran said...

The Celtics have outplayed the Lakers so far, no question about it. We're lucky to be down 2-1 and not 3-0.

The refereeing is really ridiculous. The Lakers got 12 more fts than the Celtics this game -- after getting 28 fewer in Game 2. While they did play better, and Boston played worse, the gap wasn't a 40 free throw swing in one game. I'll take our 12+ and be happy with it -- but I know there are fans in Boston right now screaming about the homer officiating in L.A.

They're right, too.

That was exhausting.

Dan, I think you are headed for more hatred of the Celts... and possibly a crappy Father's day.

Bummer, sorry.

Steve Perry said...

I knew I shouldn't have worn my Green Lantern shirt today. Sorry.

I don't even know what to say. I thought there was a good chance the Celtics would win this series -- they have the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best players in the series and they're one of the best defensive teams in the history of the league and they have home court advantage -- but I didn't think the Lakers would lose like this. That game yesterday was the worst thing I've ever seen from a team wearing purple and gold.

The Celtics are the better team. That's all there is to it. It's not outside the realm of possibility the Lakers could pull this out, but they'll have to shake off the effect of that disastrous choke job, and they'll have to get really lucky.

Teams have come back from 1-3 in NBA history, about 1 time in 20. Somehow the Lakers odds don't feel that good.

One, I can't possibly hate the Celtics more than I do now. My fucking head would explode.

Two, that Celtics game is 6:00 PST on Sunday. We're going to the beach and playing basketball all day. What's left after 6 is outside of my control, but I'm going to enjoy Father's Day up until then.

Okay, so an ugly win is better than a beautiful loss, but ... skin of their teeth ...

Somebody's gonna have to step up in Boston.

Daniel Keys Moran said...

I'll take ugly, with no complaints. At least they didn't get punked on their home court.

If they push this to 7 I'll be thrilled. As is, the season's been a success and they haven't embarrassed themselves. They're a young team; that might have to do.

They get Bynum back next year. He's a bona fide post presence in a way neither Gasol nor Odom is -- a front line going 7', 7', and 6'10" would have been difficult even for this Boston team.

Anonymous said...

If Bynum can integrate well, that's a darned good team.

I'm worried about Perkins being out. He's an underrated defender and he made a big difference for three and a half games, but injuries happen and you gotta move past 'em.

Daniel Keys Moran said...

Yeah, it's not an accident that Lamar and Gasol woke up in a game Perkins didn't play.

Rondo is better than I expected, and I thought he was pretty good. I've liked what Perkins has brought the Celtics, too -- having those guys dinged up won't help any. (Well, might help us some, but you know what I mean.)

Part of the game. Nobody ever got a ring with an asterisk because the other guys had injuries.

Sonic Joe here... great series... think the Lakers can pull it off?

Steve Perry said...

" At least they didn't get punked on their home court."

You left off a word there -- "again ..."

Daniel Keys Moran said...

Hey, Joe, good to hear from you.

>think the Lakers can pull
>it off?

Can? Oh, sure. One in 10 or 12, maybe. (Figure the chances of the Lakers winning a given game in Boston about 1 in 3 ... calculate that they need to do it twice, which is 1 in 9 ... throw in some fuzz for a game 7 frenzy from Boston and the home crowd) ... 1 in 10 or 12 ...

But I'm not betting the milk money on it.

Steve Perry,

And just today Barnes asked what was the rudest thing anyone had ever done to us. I thought on it a few minutes, and couldn't really remember anyone being rude to me in any way that stung enough to remember. Sure, guys with knives and guns and hobnailed boots, but not rude, exactly.

Now I have an answer for him....

Steve Perry said...

Fie. You saw that game. Wasn't it you who said it was the worst thing you'd ever seen from the purple and gold ... ?

I'm still rootin' for 'em, but I'm not putting any money down ...

Daniel Keys Moran said...

Are you rooting for them? I didn't realize. I hereby withdraw the comment, though you're missing out on what was going to be a really funny post over on Barnes' blog.

Nobody rooting for the Celtics better talk like that, though ...

(Digression: Would you believe that blogspot doesn't have a < hating_Boston > tag? I tried using one, and they said:

Your HTML cannot be accepted: Tag is not allowed: < hating_Boston >

And they call themselves programmers.

Steve Perry said...

Well, if the Traiblazers were in the championship, I'd have to root for them. But since Bill Walton was on the national champ Trailblazer team a thousand years or so ago, and his kid is a Laker, I have to root for L.A.

West coast loyalties kick in, too.

Steve Perry said...

Oh, my.

I know you hate the Celtics, Dan'l, but apparently God doesn't.

A lot.

I find myself wondering, Dan, if you have a Lakers/Celtics lobe in your brain. I suspect if you do, it has now been converted into a singularity and I'm now within the event horizon, unverifyably being sucked toward what used to be the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. It'll be an interesting trip. I wonder if Hawking's right, and I'll be turned into Angel Hair pasta.
