First Post ...

I've been posting since 1980 or so various places, since the days of BBSs. It's annoying how many FatSams there are floating around the internet -- because I was the first FatSam online, anywhere in the world. I'm pretty sure I'm the first person to describe internet addiction in print -- not a joke, that, unless someone else got there prior to 1989.

If you don't know who I am, check my entry on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Keys_Moran

It's a fair overview.

I've just started maintaing another blog, about horror writer Alan Rodgers. It's here: http://TheAlanRodgersExperience.blogspot.com. That'll be updated quite a bit for the immediate future, after which it'll probably get quieter.

This blog should be nicer than that one. :-)

Excellent. DKM blogging. Maybe he'll tell us what happens in the AI War.

Jesus, guy, in the first comment to the first post?

I should go back into hiding. :-)

OK: what happens in the AI War ... Everyone Dies.

Hey, JJ, I didn't know you had a blog. The things I learn off links. What's in the subscriber-only one?

Dan, glad to see you're blogging.

I've always described "internet addiction" as "data starvation" and people just look at me funny.

Glad to see you blogging!

Hope to read lots more from you as time goes on!

Take care,

No promises -- I wrote a tv pilot recently that's getting great response, though.

Thanks for that, everyone.

Today is the 30th anniversary of Star Wars. I wasn't planning on posting again for a day or two at least, but Star Wars was a huge influence on me, and more importantly, I have a couple good Star Wars stories to tell. Should get it up tonight.

30 years. I was 14, and I saw Star Wars on the day it opened with the other members of the Damien High School debate team. (Yes, I was taught by Jesuits for two years -- last time I went to school, formally.)

Glad you are out there Dan. Every so often I need a fix and go back to read TLD.

Welcome back, Dan. Great to see your writing again, even if only in blog form. Let's put it this way, you write so well that I almost learned Russian so I could read "The AI War" . . . just hope your life has settled down a bit. (If you ever need a patron a la 17th century style to support your CT ambitions . . . )

Great to hear from you. I read TLR back when it came out and have read it several times since. Thank you for your writing. I hope all goes well for you.

I look forward to reading some more words from you . . . speaking of which its about time I read TLR again. :-)

It wasn't until a few years ago that I found out my wife was born just a few days before Star Wars cam out.

Thank you for posting this! I have been a fan since the first pages of TLR, still my favorite book of all time. I'm relatively new to the internet, but already showing signs of addiction. ;)
I hope to make your blog one of my frequent stopping points!

I have talked about TLR so many times to my wife, all I have to do is mention my favorite book and she knows what it is.

Mr. Moran:

Thank you for "coming out of hiding" and for notifying those of us on the old Continuing Time list about this blog.

Even without new fiction, I've always enjoyed your writing style ... and reading your views on various things is always interesting. In some ways, I think your "The Road Goes Everywhere" bit for NPR has affected me (in a positive way) more than anything in your published fiction.

Oh, and by the way, just in case I never sent you a letter thanking you for your writings over the years ... thank you.

Now, about "The A.I. War" ....
*chuckle*

What is the Al War?

Wow, it's been a long time since anyone has asked me that question. It's my long, long, long, long unpublished sequel to "The Last Dancer."
